Lee Roy Parnell

Lee Roy Parnell is one of country music’s true treasures—and, by far, one of its most underrated artists. With his musical and lyrical mix of blues, country, rock, heartache and hope, Lee Roy Parnell brought a harder, rocking edge to country in the early 1990s. His music flaunted the gritty vocals and jagged rhythm licks more akin to r&b than country. His bluesy style gained him critical acclaim and respect from fellow performers.
The supremely gifted Texas musician has been one of the most compelling and creative roots-country artists of modern times with his soulful vocals and lyrics paired with his award-winning slide-guitar licks, which can be heard on the projects of artists such as Trisha Yearwood, Charlie Daniels, Randy Scruggs, Mary-Chapin Carpenter and Kinky Friedman. In addition to having a string of top ten singles of his own, Parnell has also written hit songs for artists as diverse as Collin Raye, Johnny Lee, Sweethearts Of The Rodeo, Jo-El Sonnier and David Wills.

Lee Roy’s self-titled debut album produced three country chart singles in Crocodile Tears, Oughta Be A Law and Family Tree.
1992’s LOVE WITHOUT MERCY was a strong album that generated three top ten singles, including What Kind Of Fool Do You Think I Am and Tender Moment, that both made it to number two. The album went on to sell more than a million copies.
