Thrash metal: extreme music, philosophy, reality, strenght, energy, DRONE!
The members of the band from Northern Germany live their music and season it with momentum and complex technical skills. Frontman Moritz Hempel describes their influences: “We see ourselves as a contemporary metal band. Our sound takes the listener through a multi-faceted metal mix which includes all genres, modern as well as old school. At the same time our music has its roots in the Bay Area scene and bands such as Testament, Mastodon and Pantera.” Along with this illustrious mix, a good portion of ambition and uncompromising straightforwardness, Drone have developed into one of Europe’s most promising new thrash metal acts. Their second offering, Juggernaut, scheduled to be out on Wacken Records/SPV on 30 March 2009 (Germany: 27 March 2009), promises to document the distinct development of this highly talented act who have a great future before them.

Juggernaut is a major step forward in terms of its compositions as well as production. No wonder: after all, the band were supported by producer Jacob Hansen (Volbeat, Maroon, Neaera, among others), currently one the most innovative sound engineers on the contemporary metal scene. Moritz Hempel: “Our sound has been optimised, drums and vocals especially benefit from Jacob’s feel for modern metal.” Drone recorded 10 new, timeless thrash anthems, all of them melodious, modern and powerful songs, Hempel’s vocals covering the whole range between death metal growls and melodies for several voices. At times the band really step on it (‘Grow A Storm’) or sprinkle in some hard-as-nails grooves (‘Motör-Heavy Piss-Take’), at others they allow their more melodious side to shine through (‘Closing Credits’). A welcome change is the drum´n`bass-oriented ‘No Pattern’, a song that many fans are familiar with, featuring guest musician MC Stunnah, who refined the track with tongue-twisting speed. An older live version of ‘No Pattern’ has featured on YouTube for some time.

Following their victory in the international Wacken Metal Battle in August 2006, their debut Head-On Collision and numerous highlights of the past years – among them festivals such as Wacken 2006 and 2007, With Full Force 2008, Metal Camp 2008, Inferno (Norway) 2008, Summer Breeze 2008 and Metal Mania (Czech Republic and Poland) 2008 – Drone prove with their programmatic Juggernaut (the title stands for an unstoppable force which destroys everything in its path) that they are still a long way away from reaching the end of the line. At the same time, the band members have remained relaxed and faithful to their ideals. Moritz Hempel: “We can’t reinvent the metal genre, but then that’s not what we set out to do. We want to have fun and do our thing hit or miss. Horns up!”
