Royal Hunt

Join the royal hunt! The spectacular bombastic metal that is the specialty of ROYAL HUNT from Denmark is going into round six. Their new album Fear continues the brilliant achievements of its 1997 predecessor Paradox while taking the band's sound to new horizons. As before ROYAL HUNT have once again evolved in terms of style and compositions without changing the basic substance of their established framework of sounds. Fear is new and exciting, with thrilling arrangements and breathtaking technical masterstrokes, yet it remains indisputably ROYAL HUNT. Their typical trademark is a mix of progressive elements, classical components and a talent for anthemnic melodies. On top of all that, each one of the musicians is an exceptional instrumentalist. The band's most recent addition is one John West (ex-Badlands, Artension, Lynch Mob), an extremely talented vocalist from New York. He joined ROYAL HUNT to replace his fellow-countryman D.C. Cooper, who decided to embark on a solo career. West has already proved himself as a perfect successor and his warm, expressive voice fits in perfectly with the band's deeply melodic compositions. As on their previous offerings, mastermind, guitarist, keyboarder and sole songwriter André Andersen has once again come up with a number of awesome songs. In the title track with its almost 10 minutes playing time, as well as in the sweeping ´Faces Of War` (6:56 mins) and ´Sea Of Time` (7.45 min), ROYAL HUNT explore the many varieties that their genre has to offer time-wise and artistically. Although the anthemnic ´Cold City Lights` and ´Voices` are comparatively short (both still over five minutes), the typical ROYAL HUNT sound also comes into effect in a more condensed setting. ´Lies`, with its edgy guitar riff which complements the groove of the song perfectly, the most rocking number on the album and definitely worth mentioning, is followed by the balladesque ´Follow Me`. Seven fantastic new compositions, each one of them a little masterpiece. Next to his diverse position as a musician and songwriter with ROYAL HUNT, Andersen has once again proved his abilities as a producer. Fear not only impresses with its brilliant material but also with its excellent sound.
