Clifton Chenier was perhaps the most famous exponent of zydeco music, an American rural music form that combined Creole and Cajun music with R&B, Blues and Jazz. With a unique sound fermented in the swamplands of Louisiana, Chenier became the first African American zydeco performer to take the music around the world. His prowess on the accordion became legendary and his band, the Red-Hot Louisiana band that featured his elder brother, Cleveland on metallic washboard was a major club, concert and festival attraction from the 50s to the 80s.

It was the notorious Texas entrepreneur and record producer, Huey Meaux ‘The Crazy Cajun’ who was able to entice Chenier into a recording studio and those sessions in late 1966 and 1967 constitute the content of this CD.
