In a scene populated by far too many clones, Sweden's Evergrey have managed to set themselves apart by finding a sound that is distinctly their own. A sound that is instantly recognisable by the rich but rough vocal timbre of Thomas Englund and a collision of formidably crunchy guitars and a vast array of keyboard sounds. Prior to their latest album, Evergrey released their well received debut 'The Dark Discovery' and last year's excellent 'Solitude Dominance Tragedy', both of which showcased their ability for making dark gothic metal with progressive and classic rock influences. 'In Search Of Truth' is the band's first full blown concept album that revolves around the subject of alien abduction. Produced once again by King Diamond guitarist Andy Larocque, the album also signals the arrival of new members Henrik Danhage on guitars, Michael Hakansson on bass and Sven Karlsson on keyboards. Driving the band once again is drummer Patrick Carlsson and looking after the proceedings as always is mastermind Thomas Englund. There's no doubt that 'In Search Of Truth' lives up to the high standards set by its two predecessors, combining a much more complex, rich sound that is cloaked in an unfathomable and sorrowful darkness together with a smothering psychological weight that is not often heard in other traditional metal bands. Evergrey look set to build on their growing popularity while crossing into the progressive metal market and beyond!
